COT Reports
1 update · Last updated Aug 2026
The Commitments of Traders report, published weekly by the CFTC, shows how different groups of traders are positioned in futures markets. It is one of the best public views of how large speculators and commercial hedgers are leaning, but the CFTC site makes the files hard to find.
What the COT report shows
Each report breaks open interest into trader categories, such as commercial hedgers, large speculators and managed money, and smaller traders. Changes in their net positions from week to week can reveal shifts in sentiment in equity index, rate, currency, and commodity futures.
